Love Is Divine: A Poem from my Husband

Husband, are you unemployed or underemployed and need a pick-me-up in your life? This short poem carefully hand-written on an inexpensive card can really make your day and the day of the one you love. If you are unemployed and starved for a good and affordable idea, you can borrow the poem that my husband wrote for me. God says that we are to share. I am sharing this with you. May God bless you and brighten your day.

Your gentle word is like a spark,
That shines upon my soul.
As each word rings out in the dark,
Your kindness makes me whole.

There is no corner, no dark place,
That your love cannot fill.
When the world makes violent waves,
Your devotion makes them still.

Truth you always speak to me,
Words full of honesty and truth.
Your caring heart keeps out the rain,
A sign of God’s caring roof.

Thank you love for being there,
For supporting me, my life.
I long to do the same for you,
My darling, beautiful wife.

Your husband…

Tough times don’t have to stop the caring, even in a recession.

“O my Comforter in sorrow, my heart is faint within me.” ~ Jeremiah 8:18

Think of the times when you have gone through very painful events in your life. You have tried to remove the situations and nothing changed. You felt alone and uncomfortable. You may even have accused your family, friends, perhaps even God or your church for lack of caring. There is no peace or joy in your soul and you even feel hatred rising within. Your sorrow was a great as if your were drowning in your own tears and fears. Perhaps you were accused of something that was so untrue that it never entered your mind to do what was accused.

Oh, the joy that Jesus offers you! When you fully give your life to Him, His presence is made known to you. Imagine the warmth like honey flowing over you as His presence engulfs you. Oh, the joy that comes when you give your cares up and refuse to carry those cares yourself. Have you forgotten? You are to cast your cares upon the Lord and He will give you a light load… His load while He carries your concerns. Can you do that? Do you really trust Him? Your life will and can never be the same because God is there for His broken-hearted people. (Psalm 34:18) God has promised to never leave you. He is always with you. (James 1:9;1 Peter 5:7)

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” ~ John 3:16

The entire Gospel comes to focus in this verse to the world. The love of God is not static or dead. God’s love is not self-centered. His love reaches out and draws His beloved to Him. His words set the pattern of true love. God’s love is the basis for all loving and caring relationships, from large to small. When you for someone, you are willing to give freely of your time and abilities, in many cases to the point of self-sacrifice. God set the example when He paid dearly with the life of his Son, the highest price that he could pay. Jesus humbly accepted the punishment, paying the price for mankind… even your very own personal sin since you were born. What does He offer? He offers a new life that He bought for you…just for you. He wants you to share that love with others and act just like He did…willing to give up personal comfort and total security so that other people like you can join in receiving God’s love. That is God’s salvation of love. That is the joy He longs to share with you.

Disciple: Renewing the Mind

God wants His people to renew their minds by the washing of His Word and by His Spirit.

bloggingforchristwith.jpgWhat you feed your mind is just as important as what you feed your body. What your mind takes in: what you read, the people you talk with, the music you listen to and the movies you watch are part of your mental diet. What you feed your mind influences and changes your mental health and well-being. A strong desire to discover the right knowledge and influence is a sign of wisdom.

Attitude color the whole of every personality. You cannot always choose what happens to you, but you can choose your attitude toward each life situation that you face. The secret to a cheerful heart is filling your mind with thoughts that are lovely and that dwell on good things. (Philippians 4:8) This was the apostle Paul’s “secret” as he faced imprisonment. This can be your weapon as you face struggles of daily life. Look at your attitudes and examine what you allow to enter your mind and dwell on. You may decide to make some changes.

renew-mind.jpgWhat you put into your mind determines what is most likely to come out in words and actions. Paul advises disciples to fill the mind with thoughts that are true, noble, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy. Do you have concerns about your thoughts and daydreams? Examine what you are putting into your mind through television, books, movies, magazines and conversations. Replace the harmful or less upbuilding with wholesome and positive material. Above all, read God’s Word and take time for prayer. Ask God to help you focus your mind on what is good and pure. While this takes practice and persistence, you can do this and see effective progress in short order.

Not a single person can fully comprehend God (Romans 11:34). Yet, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you can begin to have insight as a believer. You can come to know God’s plans, thoughts and actions. These are shown in the “mind of Christ” as laid out in scripture. You can begin to know what God wants of you by talking with Him and expecting an answer to your prayers. Are you spending enough time consistently in God’s Word? Do you have an intimate relationship through Christ with your Heavenly Father? While others may not understand or even grasp the concept of God’s Spirit, don’t expect most people to approve or understand your decision for Christ. Your decision may seem silly to them. Like a tone-deaf person listening to beautiful music, the person that rejects God cannot understand His message. A broken line of communication means that people are unable to hear what God is saying.

God has good and perfect plan for His children. He wants His children to be transformed people with a renewed spiritual mind. He wants what is best for you as you strive to honor and obey Him. Your new life is possible because God sent His Son. Christians are called “not to conform any longer to the pattern of this world” with worldly behavior and customs and self-focused service. This means casting aside corruption and customs of the world. Many disciples of Christ decide daily to refuse conforming to the world’s values. Renewing of the mind goes beyond behavior, but goes into the heart and deep-seated motivations. Cast aside pride, covetousness, selfishness, stubbornness and arrogance in spirit. The Holy Spirit renews, educates and redirects your mind so that you are truly transformed into a son of God. (Romans 8:5-8)
